Please note that with an autoclicker, this is far from perfect, since you can easily go from (for example) 1.8 to 3.1 in less than a second if you hit a golden cookie and end up with 0.1 instead of 0.9 prestige after ascending. My gut feeling tells me this is faster anyways.

I would say, it depends because permanent upgrades cost a lot, i am also new player here, first time i ascended with 21 points and was able to get 5 upgrades only and since then i have not even considered to ascend for second time even though i have collected +3.272 legacy points and even still thinking that would be not enough.
